  118. Now, on a side note, I just bought Falcon 3.0, and have had problems getting
  119. any kind of decent music OR effects from it. (Sorry I haven't been following
  120. the thread, had no reason to before!) So the question is, has anyone found the 
  121. proper settings, or at least the settings that give the best results?
  122. I'm using a Comtrade 486DX-33 Local Bus  +256k cache, 4M RAM, 210M HD, DOS5.0,
  123. 256k on the GUS(upgrade coming soon :) ), and nothing else.

  177. OK, everyone.  GUSMOD 2.0!!!! has made its debut.  I figure the program
  178. warranted such a change.  I hope you all like it.
  179.  
  180. There are still some problems, and very potential bugs.  I wrote an UltraSound
  181. IRQ detection system.  It finds my IRQ all right and it should find yours. 
  182. Some of the Protracker effects don't work quite properly, but all popping is
  183. removed under the UltraClick Removal System (still in beta).
  184.  
  185. It has scopes, panning, etc.  It doesn't have the TSR in this release (still
  186. waiting on some entry-exit routines).  It does, with one executable, Terminate
  187. and Stay Resident permanently.
  188.  
  189. Oh, it is available on archive.epas.utoronto.ca in the
  190. /pub/pc/ultrasound/submit directory.  It is called GUSMOD20.LZH (appropriate,
  191. huh?).

  287. 2) Reboot WITHOUT running Ultrinit.
  288. 3) Run Gusmod.
  289. 4) You SHOULD get garbage on the screen.  if not, you're lucky.  If so, exit to
  290. DOS and run Ultrinit.
  291. 5) Run Gusmod again.  It should work this time.

  293. NOTE: Do this with autodetection.

  295. Why do I want you to do this?  Apparently, ALL of the IRQ and DMA information
  296. has to be programmed to the card to make it work correctly.  This includes the
  297. GF1 IRQ, MIDI IRQ, DMA In, and DMA Out.  I'm only programming the GF1 IRQ.

  299. I tried the above steps on my machine, and got the results described.

  378. The GUS works fine on a M-321 motherboard, but not in 16-bit DMA mode. If you
  379. stick with a 8-bit DMA channel, then everything works fine.

  398. On the question about memory upgrades, someone was confused whether to get 
  399. 128KB or 1MBit or something about 256K.  Here it is from what I understand.
  400.  
  401.     The memory capacity of the these options are all the same, but
  402. the manual requests that TMS44C256-10n or its equivalent be used.  However, in
  403. most ads for memory, no such listing for part number is given.  What you need
  404. to look for is 256Kx4 DRAM chips at 100ns or faster.  I recently upgraded
  405. mine using 70ns and everything seems to work great.  Just plug 'em in and go.
  406.  
  407.     My guess is that the GUS just needs the structure of the 256Kx4 to
  408. access the memory properly.  I hope that helps.

  418. Hi, I have an SB-PRO midi interface and a GUS and am having trouble using the
  419. MIDI feature.

  421. I have gotten KB-MIDI for windows to play the Korg 700's instruments by 
  422. pressing keys on my computer keyboard.  I.e. I press the 'z' key, it plays a
  423. low note using the current instrument selected on my keyboard.

  425. But I need to know how to use my keyboard to drive the Gravis instruments.
  426.  
  427. How can I get it so that I can use, for example, the acpiano1 by playing my
  428. keyboard?  I've tried reversing the MIDI in and out wires, and that does nothing.

  458. midi under the ultrasnd directory.
  459. I suspect the reason that patchmgr isnt working is that you havent installed 
  460. the spanking new windows drivers ( obtainable from epas - gus0012.zip ) like
  461. it says in the small print with the patchmgr

  509. did you already try out The Wave Utilities 1.1 for Windows 3.1?
  510. They consist of Looper and Player. Looper plays *.wav files 
  511. conitnously in the background, and Player plays *.wav files by
  512. double-clicking them in a File Manager or NDW drive window.
  513. What makes Player difference from all the other WavePlayers that
  514. do the same is that it has a different playing algorithm.
  515. You can play files of unlimited length without loading them into
  516. memory first. That's great if you have long *.wav files on your hard
  517. disk or a CD-ROM.
  518. If you have a Pro AudioSpectrum you can play back two *.wav files
  519. at the same time with Player. It is now possible to play back *.wav
  520. files while Looper or Winmod or Winmod PRO or any other program
  521. is playing back sound.
  522. You should definitely check these progs out.

  546.     I have had my GUS for quite a long time by most standards (early December)
  547. and have never been able to get it to play music of any sort in windows. 
  548. It will play the 'system sounds', but nothing from WinMOD, WinJammer or
  549. any other program I have of that nature.  
  550.     Every time I start windows it gives me the message 'Invalid Patch' 
  551. twice.. and when I attempt to play something, the programs appear to work,
  552. but no sound comes out.  (i.e. The track counter progresses, but no sound)
  553. This has had me frustrated for a long time...
  554.  
  555. Next problem...
  556.  
  557.     In playmidi.exe (ver 3.50 and the one shipped with Install v1.20)
  558. I am consistently getting errors on certain .mid files like
  559.  
  560.         Failure to load patch [name here] [number] - [number]
  561.  
  562. I cannot figure out why this occurs (or how to fix it). 
  563.  
  564. And finally, what is the phone number (or address) of ElkCo or some other
  565. place to order D-RAMS at a reasonable price?  I have been scouring
  566. Computer Shopper, and most places say they are either currently out of
  567. stock of DRAM or don't carry them any more...
  568.
